Fishing line is the main part of any fishing tackle, which binds together all parts, from the hook to the fisherman. Sometimes the distance between angler and fishing hook can be few hundreds meters and the quality of the fishing line is one of the most important part of success.

Before buying fishing line, you need to clearly understand what you need to buy and why. The main rule – thicker fishing line is stronger. Any knots, scratches or other damages of fishing line can reduce its breaking strength.

Material. Fishing line can be made out of few different materials, with different properties. The most common material, used in the modern world are nylon, polyvinylidene fluoride, also known as fluorocarbon or PVDF, polyethylene and Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene or UHMWPE or Dyneema. Different material will give you different properties, like strength, weight, visibility, stretchiness, ultraviolet resistance and abrasion resistance.

Color. Another important parameter of any fishing line is color. Currently you can choose almost any color of fishing line, and for monofilament lines you also can choose transparent variant. For some fishing environments, the color for fishing line does not make any difference, for other it is very important factor.

Brands. Fishing lines are produced by few major factories in the world and then go to resellers with plenty different brands. Most popular brads are: Maxima, Berkley, Sufix, Stren and Power Pro.

Fishing line and nature
